The boys wanted a vacation in the mountains so we found a wonderful little cabin on the Hiawassee River and just minutes from Lake Chatuge. It is right between Hiawassee and Helen, GA. Not only is the cabin beautiful so is the surroundings!
The river is right in the back yard and is stocked weekly with trout fish!
After touring the cabin and scenery, we travelled to Helen to visit a few shops and eat dinner. We went to Nora Mills. Nora Mill Granary is an operational gristmill sitting alongside the Chattahoochee River that stone grinds and produces all kinds of corn and wheat based products such as grits, corn meal, pancake & waffle mixes, flours, biscuit & bread mixes. It is a neat little mill.
One of the worker's showed the boys how he makes grits from corn without using electricity. Zachary was amazed that the water was making the equipment run!
After visiting Helen, we ate at a Riverfront Restaurant and watched all the people tubing down the river! And of course, we had to hurry home to get our tubes out! Since we are right on the Hiawassee River, we can tube down the river in our back yard!
The boys were super excited...
And to end the night, we relaxed in the hot tub on the back porch overlooking the mountains and river!
