Day 7 - Last Day in Hiawassee

Last day in Hiawassee and the boys want to go tubing down the river.  So we piled in the back of the truck and David dropped the three of us off up river...
Tubing was fun but alot more work with two boys.  Will and I even flipped once and got stuck several times.  Once we travelled downstream to the cabin, we met David to do some more fishing.
David caught several but no trout to eat.  Zach even got to reel one in...
For the rest of the day, the boys played along the side of the river...

And another view of the wonderful cabin!  We took the boat but had so much to do that we only used it once!  We definitely want to return (the boys just want to buy the cabin next door that is for sale)!!

Day 6 - Hiawassee Vacation

Today we went to the Georgia State Fair and enjoyed all the exhibits.  The boys learned about Blacksmiths, living with no electricity, wood carving, washing clothes by hand, making soap and looked at what an old school house was like.  Very neat!
The boys were able to milk cows...
 And get water...
This man was teaching will to make a chicken sound with a string and can!
We enjoyed homemade icecream and slushies...
And then watched the PIG races!
Later in the afternoon, we visited Brasstown Bald - Georgia's highest point of elevation...You can see NC, SC, GA and Tenn!
We paid for a shuttle to take us up the mountain but enjoyed the hike back down!
We went out to dinner tonight at one of the local's favorites...
DEER LODGE!
We found the seating info funny!
The steaks and fish were as big as the plate!

Day 5 - Hiawassee Vacation

William had a much better night last night - lots of thanks to the humidifier!  He was still sluggish in the morning so Will and I had a lazy morning while David and Zach tried some more fishing.  They have caught small fish but no more trout!
This is a view of the backyard.  If you look closely, David and Zach are far in the distance getting ready to fish.
After lunch, I drove David and Zach a few miles up the road and dropped them in the river to tube back down to the cabin.  This makes the trip about an hour but unfortunately we all can not go because it is a far walk!  Zachary was so super excited (Zach and I did it previously in the week)!
And of course, more time in the hot tub...

Day 4 - Hiawassee Vacation

Last night, we had a sleepless night in the cabin.  William has had a cold for days that turned into croup last night - very bad seal bark, fever and trouble breathing.  It broke my heart holding him and him saying "mommy, I can't breathe."  Was very scary for us as we did not have a humidifier nor did we know any local physicians.  I sat in a steamy bathroom and held him all night long.  But he had croup as a baby so we knew that it is very scary but rarely a medical emergency!

So this morning was a very slow morning - Will slept until noon!  David and Zach spent the morning fishing by the river.  By afternoon, Will was begging to go play - rarely does anything slow him down.  So we took a leisurely ride on Lake Chatuge!

A very beautiful lake but we enjoy Lake Keowee and Lake Jocassee better because there are sandy islands to dock and play!

Day 3 - Hiawassee Vacation

This morning, we took a drive into Hiawassee to find a public ramp access for Lake Chatuge.  What a beautiful city and lake!
The boys spotted a public beach and lake front playground so we had to stop and play...
After touring Hiawassee, we went back to the cabin and spent the afternoon at the swimming pool!
There was also plenty of room with no traffic for the boys to ride their bicycles!
That evening, we all went back to the river for some more fishing.  Fishing was beginning to get frustrating because you could see the trout but they would not bite any of our lines.  David did get a monster trout but it broke the line and we did not have a net!
The neighborhood had picnic tables and fire pits along the riverfront so after fishing, we made a campfire and roasted some marshmellows!  Boy, we love S'mores!
Another wonderful day with so much to do!
